Even though the Copyright Law
tprotects works of the mind regardless of any filing and registration formalities, it is however advisable to file such works with the competent offices in order to have proof of authorship of the work with a certain date.
Works of visual art (painting, sculpture, graphics, photography, computer art, architectural works, layouts, and information content of websites), literary works, multimedia works, sound recordings, music, software, databases, board games, etc. can be deposited.
In particular, for board games, both the game layouts and the rules of the game itself can be stored in their software version.
It is not possible to file a patent for games.
- - Published works, with the exception of software, can be deposited with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in the General Public Register of Protected Works (R.P.G.).
- - Unpublished works and software at the SIAE General Directorate - OLAF Section.
Copyright protection for software limits the way it is written to its intended purpose, but does not prevent the creation of programs with similar functions written differently.
- - radio and television format at the SIAE General Directorate - DOR Section.
A Format is an unpublished work of the mind with an original and explanatory structure for a show, specified in the articulation of its phases and suitable for representation in a radio, television or theatrical action.
Upon request of interested parties, SIAE follows up on the registration of works at the Copyright Office in Washington.
