The main answers to your questions
Within six months of the filing date of the national trademark, you can request the filing of a Community and/or international and/or foreign national trademark, with reference to the priority of the national trademark. Priority means that even if the foreign trademark is filed, for example, four months later, the same trademark is then registered as if it had been filed on the same day as the Italian basic trademark. However, if the foreign trademark is filed, for example, within seven months, the foreign trademark is valid from the filing date.
This prevents identical trademarks from being filed abroad in a parasitic manner, beating the company that initially filed the basic trademark in Italy. It's best to have at least 2-3 months' notice before the deadline, especially for non-EU extensions. Within 6 months of filing in Italy, it's possible to extend the trademark abroad, claiming priority for the Italian filing. It's best to proceed within the next 4 months to allow for sufficient time to prepare the applications.
